Tom Grennan delights Newcastle Racecourse as he battles sickness to deliver sun drenched set

Northumberland Plate Day was rounded off in style on Saturday evening, when Tom Grennan brought the hits and battled sickness to delight a sun drenched crowd up at Newcastle Racecourse.

After eight races to put a bet on, including the coveted Plate, won by Calling the Wind, race goers flocked to the huge stage next to the track to see Tom, one of the biggest names in British music right now, delight with a set that was over all too quickly.

Fresh from a superb set at Glastonbury, Tom arrived on stage not long after 5pm, with the sun high in the sky. He delighted his captive audience with well known hits like Remind Me and Lionheart, as well as proving exactly why his new album What Ifs and Maybes shot straight tongue top of the charts, by performing tracks from it like How Does It Feel and Psychadelic Kisses.

Tom now has plenty of killer tunes at his disposal and his Newcastle set was a proper al fresco treat with a real festival feel to the atmosphere. A real showman, Tom had race day revellers eating out of the palm of his hand from start to finish, as a sea of sharp suits and striking dresses danced in front of him. The singer admitted he was feeling very much the weather but soldiered on, before sickness got the better of him.

Having dazzled a packed out Utilita Arena a few months ago, Tom is back in Newcastle later this month for a special intimate album launch show at the Boiler Shop and, on the basis of Saturday evening, anyone lucky enough to have a ticket is in for a stellar show.

The next big event o the Racecourse's calendar is Ladies Day on Saturday, July 29, when star guest will be Ronan Keating, with the Boyzone star set to entertain race goers once the final horse has passed the post.
