Tom Cruise has a message for you.

The blockbuster actor took a few minutes out from filming the upcomingTop Gun sequel to warn fans about the motion soothing setting on the televisions.

Joined by writer Christopher McQuarrie, the duo celebrated the home release of Mission Impossible: Fallout by telling viewers to turn off the setting, which is meant to reduce motion blur by inserting digitally created extra frames.

“The unfortunate side effect is that it makes most movies look like they were shot on high-speed video rather than film,” Cruise says. Watch the announcement below.

Many directors – including Christopher Nolan, Rian Johnson and Paul Thomas Anderson – have spoken out against the setting, arguing that the effect distorts how the filmmakers intended the audience to watch the film. You can read more about motion smoothing here.
