Tom Cruise: The weird but sensible thing he reportedly does during interviews

Tom Cruise has long been tabloid-fodder, his name never far from a hyperbolic, often spurious headline alluding to relationships, divorce, Scientology, etc.

But as a high-profile actor well versed in the highs and lows of fame, he also reportedly takes unusual but sensible measures during interviews to ensure the accuracy of reporting that few famous names do.

Kate Coyne, a former People magazine executive, has compiled her experiences of working as a celebrity reporter in her new book, I’m Your Biggest Fan: Awkward Encounters and Assorted Misadventures in Celebrity Journalism

Recalling an interview with Cruise to promote Mission Impossible III, she describes how his publicist switched on a tape recorder as soon he walked into the room. It may be worth noting that Coyne was conducting the interview for Good Housekeeping.

“To this day, he is the only celebrity to have recorded an interview that I was recording,” she writes. “When I think about how much sense it makes for a celebrity, particularly one known for having to handle controversy, to have proof of what they said, I’m surprised more subjects don’t do this.”
