Tom Cruise swaps Mission Impossible for golf as he takes helicopter up to Scotland

Putt it this way – there’s no such thing as Mission Impossible for Tom Cruise if there’s a chance of having a hole lot of fun.

And when the golf-loving actor got a break from filming the latest instalment of the blockbuster in North Yorkshire, it was greens for go.

All the way to Scotland for a quick round – by whirly birdie.

A source said: “Tom had a day off so he just had to go to St Andrews. It is the home of golf and only about 250 miles from where he’s filming. It took no time in a helicopter.”

Cruise, 58, has been staying in some posh Yorkshire digs while filming Mission Impossible 7 with his girlfriend and co-star Hayley Atwell, 39.

The couple booked out 16-bed Middleton Lodge, a Georgian country estate hotel near Richmond, and brought their own chef, security team and a fleet of helicopters.

Most locals were thrilled to have a Hollywood star in the area – but villagers in nearby Middleton Tyas could have done without the sound of his mode of transport.

One said: “It was like the flight path to Heathrow – helicopters coming and going all day. A nightmare.”

Cruise faces a different mode of transport on set. He and Hayley waved to fans as they filmed a scene running along the roof of a train at North Yorkshire Moors Railway station, Levisham.

Cruise told how he had a “wonderful” time in Yorkshire.

Director Christopher McQuarrie also thanked the “lovely and welcoming” locals on Instagram, and added: “We had an amazing week and we’ll be back for one last bit of mischief.”
