Tom Cruise is reportedly planning to shoot an action film in space, with assistance from Elon Musk‘s SpaceX programme.
That’s according to Deadline, at least, who state that the project is still in the early stages of development, and that Cruise and Musk are working with NASA to organise the feat.
If the project goes ahead, it would be the first narrative feature ever to be filmed in space.
Deadline also confirmed that the film would not be part of the Mission: Impossible franchise, the hit action series renowned for its elaborate stunt sequences.
Cruise frequently performs his own stunts on film, which have included hanging from the side of a jet in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, and scaling Dubai’s Burj Khalifa skyscraper in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
During filming for Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Cruise even broke his ankle while jumping from one rooftop to another.
SpaceX is the aerospace manufacturing organisation founded by technology entrepreneur Musk in 2002. Musk had famously stated that he runs the company with the aim of developing travel between Earth and Mars.
