Tom Coughlin checked on Eli Manning via text after demotion to Daniel Jones

A new era has begun for the New York Giants as they will be starting rookie quarterback Daniel Jones this Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In all probability, it will mark the end of an era for veteran Eli Manning, who has been with the team since 2004 and has accumulated 232 starts with the organization.

Jacksonville Jaguars president of football operations, Tom Coughlin, was with Manning for a great deal of those 232 starts and was able to win two Super Bowls with the veteran. Needless to say, the two are forever bonded and still have a great relationship until this day. That reportedly prompted Coughlin to check on his former team leader and quarterback to see how he was doing in what looks to be one of the hardest times of his career.

Of course, this has led to many fans wondering what this could mean for the Jags and whether or not Coughlin’s call could be considered tampering. However, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo was quick to answer one of those questions.

As for any potential interest from the Jags (which really shouldn’t be a question), that’s unlikely, too, as rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew II has set the league on fire with a current passer rating of 110.6 and a completion percentage of 73.9 (65-of-88). Both figures are the highest ever by a rookie over the course of the seasons first three weeks in the Super Bowl era.

Additionally, the Jags are planning to have veteran Nick Foles back by Week 11. Clearly, if a move did happen for Manning, it would be elsewhere as the Jags appear to be fine at quarterback for 2019.
