Tom Coughlin: ‘Blake [Bortles] is the QB with the Jags right now’

The Jacksonville Jaguars are coming up on one of the biggest decisions they’ll have to make this offseason as they reportedly are set to release Blake Bortles. However, as the team’s vice president of football operations, Tom Coughlin must simply tell it like it is — and that is simply stating that he’s the Jags’ quarterback regardless as to what the near future holds.

“Blake [Bortles] is the quarterback of the Jacksonville Jaguars right now,” Coughlin said to Action Jax News.

Most by now have come to the reality that it’s time to move on from Bortles, and in all likelihood, the front office has, too. At the end of the day, Coughlin and his crew have jobs at stake and understand a change is needed with the veteran quarterback giving them a total of 73 games to assess him.

After all, Ryan Tannehill is technically still the Miami Dolphins’ quarterback and the same can be said for Eli Manning and the New York Giants. However, that does not mean it’s a guarantee they’ll be the starters come Week 1. That said, just as most do, we expect Bortles to be released in the near future.
