Tom Cleverley gives two reasons why Erik ten Hag has been successful at Manchester United

Tom Cleverley thinks Erik ten Hag's success at Manchester United is down to getting respect with his authoritative approach.

Although United recorded their lowest-ever points total in the Premier League last season, they have enjoyed a productive campaign this time around, which has seen Ten Hag win the Carabao Cup and get the club in the right direction again.

It would be a shock for United not to secure Champions League football and Ten Hag, who is managing his first season in England, has received plaudits for the manner in which he's transformed the club's fortunes in a short space of time.

Cleverley, who spent seven years at United after being promoted to the first-team by Sir Alex Ferguson, was asked about Ten Hag by the Man United Scandinavian Supporters' Club and he heaped the praise on the Dutchman.

The current captain of Watford discussed the impact he's made and put it down to the respect he commands with players.

"To get the respect of the players as well. It was clear that the players were probably not working as hard for each other as they possibly can, but now, you can see everyone believes in this manager," Cleverley said.

"They want to work for him and it's been really impressive to watch in such a short space of time. They've won a trophy, cemented themselves in the hunt for top four and they're in the running for another two trophies.

"A really successful first season for Ten Hag. He just seems to bring intensity. As a player, you know when you're in the presence of someone who is really demanding, he wants high standards and he grabs your attention.

"You believe in every word he's saying and even though I'm not inside that dressing room, that's what it looks like from the outside and he looks like a very demanding manager and it looks like United can build their future around him."

"I love his football, it's high-intensity, on the front foot, high press when they can and they've made some great signings."
