Tom Brady to produce and star in comedy movie after announcing NFL retirement

Tom Brady is set to share the screen with Hollywood royalty as he embarks on his new career after retiring from American football.

The quarterback called time on his 22-year NFL career earlier this month, and will forever be remember as one of the greatest ever to play the game.

During his time with the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he set dozens of NFL records and won seven Super Bowl rings.

Since announcing his retirement at the age of 44, there has been speculation over what he would be doing with his time now he no longer has to commit his time to an intense football season.

It seems the answer to that can be found in Tinseltown, with Brady set to star in an upcoming Hollywood film.

The comedy, titled 80 for Brady, is described by Hollywood Reporter as "a football-themed road trip movie".

Brady, who will also serve as a producer on the film, will star alongside huge stars including Jane Fonda, Sally Field, Rita Moreno and Lily Tomlin.

Production on the movie is set to begin in the spring, with no release day yet confirmed.

In his retirement statement, Brady had admitted that he had no idea exactly what his work days would look like now he has left the NFL world.

"The future is exciting," he wrote in a lengthy statement published across his social media accounts.

"I'm fortunate to have cofounded incredible companies like @autograph.io @bradybrand @tbl2sports that I am excited to continue to help build and grow, but exactly what my days will look like will be a work-in-progress.

"As I said earlier, I am going to take it day by day. I know for sure I want to spend a lot of time giving to others and trying to enrich other people's lives, just as so many have done for me."

That came after he had reflected on how fortunate he had been to be able to experience such a fulfilling and trophy-laden career in American football.

"My playing career has been such a thrilling ride, and far beyond my imagination, and full of ups and downs. When you're in it every day, you really don't think about any kind of ending," Brady added.

"As I sit here now, however, I think of all the great players and coaches I was privileged to play with and against – the competition was fierce and deep, JUST HOW WE LIKE IT.

"But the friendships and relationships are just as fierce and deep. I will remember and cherish these memories and re-visit them often. I feel like the luckiest person in the world."
