Tom Brady Sr. says he and his wife both had COVID-19: ‘It was a matter of life and death’

For the first time, Tom Brady Sr. missed his son’s games in Week 1 and 2 of the 2020 regular season. He and his wife Galynn contracted COVID-19 in September and were in bad shape.

During an appearance on ESPN’s “Greeny Show” with Mike Greenberg, Tom Brady Sr. reflected upon their fight against COVID-19.

“When the season started this year I was in the hospital with COVID for almost three weeks and my wife was sick with COVID at the same time,” he said. “We didn’t even see the first two games of the year. It was the first two games I ever missed of his career because I was sick as a dog and my wife was as sick as a dog.”

He added: “I didn’t even care if they were playing much less missing the game. It was a matter of life and death, just like anyone who goes into the hospital. It was serious stuff. Tommy fought through it and now it’s in the rear-view mirror. We’re healthy, we’re happy and everything is good.”

Even after a brutal battle against the novel coronavirus, the Brady family intends to be in Tampa for Brady’s 10th Super Bowl appearance.

“It’s a wonderful time to get together to celebrate Tommy’s success and the family get-togethers,” Brady Sr. said. “We’re going to get there. … We’re going to be extra cautious.”
