Tom Brady’s trainer suggests that the Patriots quarterback could play until he’s 47

At some point, Tom Brady is going to retire. It’s inevitable. It just might be five years from now.

The 42-year-old quarterback is in his 20th NFL season. And though he’s helped lead the Patriots to an 8-1 start this year, the possibility of retirement will loom as the season continues.

His trainer, Alex Guerrero, suggested that Brady’s retirement could be put on hold for, oh, just another half decade.

Guerrero joined WEEI’s The Greg Hill Show on Thursday, and he discussed the chance of Brady’s retirement after this season. Brady has said before that he could see himself playing until 45, but Guerrero said that the Patriots quarterback has moved beyond that target age in recent conversations.

Via WEEI:

“It all comes to commitment, really. No one thought you could play at the elite level in your late 30s, early 40s. That is something we always felt we could do. I have really wanted to be there to help him accomplish that goal. I certainly do believe that 45 is a very realistic goal.

“We talk about it all the time. Every year he just adds another year. He goes in and he’s like, ‘Guys, I feel so good still. I think I am going to go till 45.’ I am like, ‘OK.’ Now he’s like, ‘Alex, I think I can go like 46 or 47.’”

Brady is a free agent after this season, and he drew attention in the offseason when his Boston-area home hit the market for $34 million. Guerrero also listed his house for sale, but he told WEEI that he and his wife wanted to downsize.
