Tom Brady on team-friendly contracts: ‘My wife makes a lot of money’

One of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL isn’t nearly one of the highest paid.

Tom Brady has been taking pay cuts throughout his entire career and the results have been tremendous. Brady’s humble attitude and modest contracts have allowed the New England Patriots to spend money in other places — which has brought the team six Super Bowl rings since 2001.

Brady opened up Thursday night on ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, and talked about his willingness to take less money. His endorsements and wife Gisele Bundchen had a lot to do with it.

“I think the thing I’ve always felt for me and my life is winning has been a priority,” Brady said. “And my wife makes a lot of money, so, I’m a little smarter than you think.”

Not only does she make a lot of money, she had a net worth in 2018 that doubled Brady’s.

“Actually it’s a salary cap and you can only spend so much and the more one guy gets is less for others,” Brady continued. “I think for a competitive advantage standpoint I’d like to get a lot of good players around me.”

Brady’s elite skills and willingness to understand this concept have been the key to New England’s success. Now, the 41-year-old quarterback is on the chase for ring No. 7 in 2019 — which has never been done by an NFL player.
