Tom Brady on future in NFL: ‘I hope there’s a lot of football beyond this’

Tom Brady has done what few professional athletes have ever done — he’s slowed down father time.

There’s no precedent of a 41-year-old quarterback winning championships, and Brady is doing it at an elite level. The legendary New England Patriots quarterback is coming off of his 19th season in the league, and his sixth Super Bowl win.

This hasn’t been done before, but Brady still isn’t satisfied with what he’s accomplished. He’s went on record before saying that he wants to play into his mid-40s, and he reiterated that idea after the team’s minicamp was complete on Thursday.

“I hope I can play that long,” Brady said. “You have to set goals for yourself, and you have short term and long term, and the reality is that this year is the most important one, and that’s the one that I’m focused on. I hope there’s a lot of football beyond this, but it’s a contact sport. I’ve said that for a long time, too. I don’t think you can take those things for granted.”

It seems that the only thing holding Brady back from playing until he’s 45 years old, would be an injury. He also has to take into consideration his wife and kids — who have busy lives as well. Gisele travels often with her career, and it makes it difficult for the family to spend time together.

“My wife is a very ambitious woman and she travels a lot, so we’re just trying to divide some responsibility at home,” he said. “She supports me a lot, my family supports me a lot, and my kids aren’t getting any younger, so I just try to spend time with them when I can and still get the other things done that I need to get done, and be ready to go when it’s time to go.”

If it’s up to Brady alone though, he will likely play as long as his body allows — and that provides a sigh of relief for anyone who supports the Patriots.
