Tom Brady got away with illegally throwing two passes in one play, and NFL fans had so many jokes

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady did something remarkable on Monday night. He put together a truly wild play. Admittedly, it had basically zero impact on the game. But it was something NFL fans had never really seen before.

Brady threw a pass, which a Los Angeles Rams defender batted at the line of scrimmage. (Nothing special.) But the ball fell back into Brady’s hands. Rather than knock the ball to the ground or run with the ball, Brady decided to throw the ball a second time.

Yes, he threw the ball twice (?!?!?!?). In one play (?!?!?!?). And Mike Evans caught it for eight yards (?!?!?!?). And get this: the Bucs got away with it. The officials flagged Brady for the illegal pass, but the Rams declined the penalty, because the quarterback’s (second) pass didn’t go for a first down. Had L.A. declined the penalty, the teams would have replayed third down. Instead, the Buccaneers punted on fourth down at the spot where Evans caught Brady’s second pass.

So Brady’s second pass counted… somehow. Here’s a look at the play.

Wow. Never seen that one before.

Everyone had fun cracking jokes about the bizarre play.

Leave it to Twitter to make most out of a silly moment.
