Tom Brady explains why he’s tried to ban his father from speaking to media

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t like answering for his father’s opinions. So he has done his best to keep Tom Brady Sr. away from the media. Though, it isn’t exactly working.

The Patriots quarterback explained why he attempted to impose a media-ban upon Brady Sr. on Monday. Ironically, the topic came up in a recent story from the Boston Globe when Brady Sr. admitted he wasn’t supposed to be speaking for the story. And still, Brady Sr. spoke.

“Well apparently he doesn’t listen because he’s still talking to the media,” Brady said on WEEI  during his weekly appearance on “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday. “My dad, he’s just an amazing man. He’s very forthcoming with information, so I keep telling him, ‘Dad, of course they are going to keep calling because you keep talking.’ When he speaks (everyone) thinks I am speaking, but I am not speaking. I said, ’It’s hard for me to tell you anything…’ What I have learned is I just can’t tell my dad anything. He has his own opinions and dads do what dads do.”

He added: “I love my dad. He’s an incredible man and he’s been my role model my whole life. But, he does like to talk.”

Brady seems to have tried to keep his father out of the newspapers for years. In 2017, Brady discussed the same media ban. But since then, Brady Sr. has discussed Deflategate (with unflattering opinions about commissioner Roger Goodell), Malcolm Butler’s Super Bowl benching and Galynn Brady’s bout with cancer. Brady Sr. has, indeed, been quite active with the media. Particularly with his strong words on Deflategate, it’s understandable why Brady might want his father’s opinions to stay private.
