Tom Brady eager for rematch with Peyton Manning — in golf

Phil Mickelson will face Tiger Woods in “The Match: Champions for Charity” on TNT later this spring, Turner Sports confirmed Wednesday. The golf match will raise funds for COVID-19 relief efforts.

In a fun twist, Mickelson will have Tom Brady on his team and Woods will have Peyton Manning on his team for the two-vs-two event. This will mark the first time Manning and Brady have faced off in a competitive event since the 2015 AFC Championship Game.

Manning’s Broncos defeated Brady’s Patriots 20-18 in that contest before going on to win Super Bowl 50. Brady has been looking forward to a chance to get some revenge.

Manning and Brady had a spirited rivalry on the field but they have been friends off the field for many years. They exchanged good-natured jabs in an episode of “Peyton’s Places” that is available to stream on ESPN Plus.

In February, Brady tweeted a backhanded compliment about Manning’s golf game: “Peyton is the better golfer right now,” the QB said. “He’s had much more practice these past few years.”

Manning and Woods may have an advantage in the competition given that they have golfed together in the past. Manning teamed up with Woods for Memorial pro-ams in 2019, 2018, 2009 and 2005.

A date for the event hasn’t been announced but the match is expected to happen in May. Turner will announce more details at a later time.
