Tom Brady and Mac Jones led Buccaneers, Patriots in rushing yards on Sunday

All you’re going to hear about once Week 3 comes down is the most important matchup in Week 4 — when Tom Brady returns to Gillette Stadium for the first time as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. We’ll be covering all the angles, of course. One angle you might not expect is that there’s an off-chance that Brady and new Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, neither of whom are acknowledged as particularly mobile, led their respective teams in rushing yards on Sunday.

In a 34-24 loss to the Rams, Brady ran three times for 14 yards and a touchdown. Ronald Jones finished second with 11 yards on five carries, and Leo-nard Fournette had eight yards on four carries.

In a 28-13 loss to the Saints, Jones had 28 rushing yards on six carries, while Damien Harris finished second with 14 yards on six carries, and James White had six yards on one carry.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time Brady led his team in rushing yards in a game. As ESPN’s Jenna Laine points out. Brady led the Patriots with 15 yards and a touchdown on four carries in an 30-23, October 25, 2015 win over the Jets.

“I should enjoy this, because it will probably never happen again,” Brady said after that game, which included an 11-yard run on third-and-10. LeGarrette Blount, the Patriots’ leading rusher that season, was limited by Todd Bowles’ top-shelf defense to minus-3 yards on three carries.
