Tom Brady admits Patriots secondary is keeping him frustrated at training camp

The New England Patriots secondary is loaded and quarterback Tom Brady knows it.

Brady spoke with the media on Wednesday for the first time this preseason and among many topics, including his contract situation, the almost 42-year-old signal caller discussed the Patriots defense causing a rough day of practice for the offense.

“We’ve got a very good defense this year,” Brady said. “Those guys are challenging us on every day. It’s hard to complete passes on our secondary. That’s just the reality. So, it’s actually great work for our offense to see how we measure up against a very good defense. Days like today are frustrating for us and we’ve got to learn from the corrections and try to come out and have a better day tomorrow.”

Brady will likely have his work cut out for himself this preseason going against the Patriots defense, which features two of the deepest position groups on the team with the linebacker corps and defensive backfield.

All-Pro cornerback Stephon Gilmore isn’t getting too far ahead of himself when it comes to his positional group, however. He was asked whether this defensive backs group is one of the deepest in the NFL.

“We’ll see,” Gilmore said when asked if this defensive back grouping is as deep as any he’s played with. “You’ve got to prove it each and every day. It’s not going to happen over night. It’s a lot of work that goes into it.”
