Tom Boyd loses it at Celtic penalty as he tells refs to 'ignore the rules' after VAR intervention

Tom Boyd has launched a heated referee comment after a penalty given against Celtic when playing Dundee United.

A lengthy VAR check had deemed Alexandro Bernabei had handled the ball inside the box after it was headed on to him by an opposing player, whistler David Dickinson also dishing out a yellow card. Manager Ange Postecoglou has been unhappy with the delays the new tech has brought to the Premiership but his Celtic players still managed to dig out a 4-2 win after a Sead Haksabanovic double plus Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada effort.

Commentating for Celtic TV, former player Boyd has hit out at the whistler for the Parkhead decision he in no way agreed with. Steven Fletcher eventually went on to score the spot-kick and Boyd fumed: “It’s time like this the referees should ignore the rules. He’s putting his arms out for balance. Unbelievable! Referees need to go back to school.”
