Tom Aspinall drops hint over UFC return to England after 'overhearing' talks in Las Vegas

Tom Aspinall is keen to see UFC to return to Britain and did some cheeky eavesdropping at his recent fight in Las Vegas.

The Manchester fighter, ranked 11th in the UFC's heavyweight ranking, extended his winning record last week after breezing past Sergey Spivak.

Aspinall's triumph came on a great night for the British MMA scene, with victories for Scouse duo Paddy Pimblett and Molly McCann as well as a triumph for Wales' Jack Shore.

That has only led to an increase in anticipation for UFC to return to these isles and Aspinall wants to see it happen in 2022.

“That’s what we’ve got to do next. I was overhearing a few conversations when I was over there, doing some cheeky eavesdropping, and it seems like the UFC want to come back," he told MEN Sport.

“If we can get that on early next year, February or March, what a time that would be. Especially with so many UK guys or European guys fighting on the same card, like last week, it went down really well, so why not?

"Let’s do it, let’s get all the UK guys on and let’s do this thing early next year.”

Aspinall picked up the Performance of the Night bonus for his victory, extending a remarkable record of securing the prize pay-out in three of his four UFC bouts - but it isn't something he specifically looks to do.

“I don’t think it’s UFC, I just think I’m just a finisher. I can finish from any position, anytime in the fight from anywhere," he said.

"A lot of fighters can’t really say that but I really can. It’s just in my nature, the bonus doesn’t make me do it, it’s nice obviously, but I was finishing fights like that way before the UFC. I’m just a finisher and I’m dangerous from everywhere.”
