Tokyo World issues traffic and travel advice ahead of busy weekend

This year's Tokyo World festival is expecting to be bigger than ever as the weekend festival takes over Eastville park.

The two-day event sees thousands heading to the east of the city from far and wide, as a host of big musical acts covering a wide range of genres perform on impressive stages.

The event is already sold out so the area around the park is expected to be very busy throughout the coming weekend so organisers have issued advice on how to travel to and from the site to reduce congestion and queues.

Travel advice

Festival organisers are urging all customers to either walk or cycle to the festival site. There will be railings to secure bicycles to in well-lit areas outside the arena space.

By car

For those travelling by car, organisers advise car-sharing and parking away from the immediate area of Eastville as it is a heavily residential area.

Train

Be aware there are planned works on train lines this weekend. Parkway Station will be affected but Temple Meads station shouldn't be. It’s worth checking whether works will affect your journey using  GWR's journey checker.

If you are travelling by train, queuing systems may be in place at Clifton Down, Redland, Montpelier and Bristol Temple Meads, so leave extra time for your journey.

If you use any of the trains to travel to the festival you will need to alight the train at Stapleton Road. From this station, it's approximately a five-minute walk to the festival.

Bus

There will be Tokyo World shuttle buses and Hackney taxis available from Temple Meads throughout the duration of the festival. There will also be Tokyo World shuttle buses at the festival.

These will either take you back to Temple Meads or the main city centre. Return travel by bus will be £4.

Taxi

For those planning to get a taxi after the event, there will be a taxi rank in Tesco car park which is a 10-minute walk from the festival.

However, taxis will be limited, so people should expect a maximum waiting time of one hour. Organisers strongly advise catching one of the Tokyo World shuttle buses or walking / cycling instead.

Shuttle bus

Shuttle buses with Tokyo World written on them will be running for the duration of the festival to and from the bus stops described below.

Service 1  - Whiteladies Road, Clifton
