Tokyo confirmed 1,832 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.
The figure exceeded 1,800 for the first time since Jan. 16, when 1,839 cases were recorded.
Wednesday's tally is up 683 from a week earlier, marking the 32nd consecutive day where there has been such a week-on-week increase.
The seven-day moving average of new cases came to 1,277.6, an increase of 55.2% from the preceding seven-day period's 823.3.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients increased by four from Tuesday to 64.
