Tokyo Super Sunday could be one of Ireland's biggest ever days at the Olympics

An Olympic Super Sunday is on the cards on Sunday as Team Ireland look to extend their growing medal haul at the Tokyo Games.

In what could be one of the great days in Irish Olympic history, Ireland's boxers could guarantee a medal to go with Aidan Walsh's bronze, while a further three medals could be mopped up in golf and gymnastics.

It's already been a successful games for those in green after Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy struck gold in rowing, while Ireland's women's four were the first to triumph as they took bronze earlier this week.

Here's a look at which Irish athletes could be on the podium in an action packed Sunday morning:

Kurt Walker - Boxing

All eyes will be on the Kokugikan Arena in the early hours of Sunday morning as Kurt Walker fights for a medal, but unfortunately Aidan Walsh will not be in action in his welterweight semi-final due to the ankle injury he suffered in celebrating his quarter-final win on Friday.

The Lisburn boxer can secure a place on the podium in his featherweight quarter-final bout against Duke Ragan, with a win sealing at least a bronze medal.

The crucial clash has the added caveat in that his American opponent will have former Ireland head coach Billy Walsh in his corner for the 3.30 am bout.

Rhys McClenaghan - Pommel horse

Gold fever won't stop there for Team Ireland as Rhys McClenaghan competes in the men's pommel horse final at 10.44 on Friday morning.

The 22-year-old was comfortable in qualifying for the final last week and is fancied as a genuine contender for a podium place.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry - Golf

Attention could also switch to the fairways in Tokyo after Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy both shot into medal contention, with McIlroy three shots off the lead and Lowry one shot further back - it's all to play for.

If all goes well in the early hours of Sunday morning, the duo could creep onto the podium at Tokyo.

Thomas Barr - 400m Hurdles

Although not racing for a medal on Sunday, Thomas Barr could qualify for the 400m hurdles final.

He came fourth in the final in Rio five years ago, and will be out on the track at 1.05 pm to attempt to tee up another tilt at Olympic glory on Tuesday.
