Tokyo Skytree in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, sparkled in the five Olympic colors on Thursday to observe the one-year countdown to the delayed Tokyo Olympics.
According to the Olympic organizing committee, which planned to illuminate the tower, the colors were selected to boost public momentum and encourage athletes who are working to regroup and prepare after the postponement of the Games amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
At 8 p.m., one side of Skytree was lined with blue, yellow, black, green and red lights, symbolic of the Olympic colors.
On the observation deck side, 350 meters high, the words "TOKYO 2020 + 1" and "The Tokyo 2020 Olympics are just 1 year ahead!" were projected.
The illumination is set to continue through Sunday.
