The open-air terrace at the Tokyo Skytree tower in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, will be open to the public for the first time as part of a guided tour that will start on Oct. 23. The terrace is located at a height of 155 meters above ground.
On the tour, a guide will show the interior of the tower's structural steel framework, and participants will be able to view the Tokyo skyline through openings in the structure while exposed to the wind. They will also view a passageway for inspectors and a device equipped with light-emitting diodes to illuminate the tower.
The terrace is located near the rooftop of a room that houses equipment. Although the terrace has been closed to the public, Skytree's operator decided to conduct a tour of that section because a similar guided tour of the tower's base turned out to be very popular.
The new tour will last about 50 minutes and be given 12 times a day, with a maximum of 25 persons aged 6 or older admitted each time. It will cost 1,700 yen per person, plus the cost of admission to the tower. No tours will be given on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays and certain other days.
