Tokyo Metro's Omotesando Station in Minato Ward, Tokyo established Monday a photo display honoring medical workers at the forefront of the efforts to treat the novel coronavirus. The display, which can be seen until June 21, was organized by photographer Miyamoto Naotaka, 59, and is intended to as both an act of gratitude toward medical workers and a bit of encouragement to all who see the photos.
Doctors, nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, laboratory technicians performing PCR tests, and clinical engineers operating extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) systems at the National Center for Global Health and Medicin in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, all served as models in Miyamoto's photos. The 1.8-meter-high photo panels line the underground passage. "I was able to capture the earnest expressions of the workers who held a strong sense of duty," Miyamoto said.
The center has been researching medical examination and treatment methods since the virus' very early days, by doing things such as accepting infected cruise ship passengers.
