Famous Japanese Mitsukoshi department stores reopened Saturday, the first day following the lifting of the coronavirus related state of emergency in the Tokyo metropolitan area. Long lines of visitors awaited the opening outside of Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, which reopened for the first time in a month and a half.
After the doors opened at 11 a.m., each person underwent a temperature check at the entrance and were allowed to enter the store in intervals. "I'm very glad that this department has opened again, because I would visit at least once a month. I'm looking forward to see some of the cosmetics which are only on display here," a company employee from Sumida Ward, Tokyo, said.
On the same day, Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. reopened six stores including Nihombashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, Isetan Shinjuku Main Store and Ginza Mitsukoshi Store in Tokyo and surrounding prefectures.
