For the first time, newly confirmed novel coronavirus infection cases have topped 600 in Tokyo in a single day.
The Tokyo metropolitan government announced that 602 people have been confirmed infected in the capital on Thursday, surpassing the previous record of 584 on Saturday.
Among the newly infected people, 77 were 65 and older.
The number of seriously ill patients remains at 59.
