Tokyo reported a total of 2,447 new cases of novel coronavirus infection on Thursday, exceeding the 2,000 mark for the first time since the start of the outbreak last year, the metropolitan government announced.
The number of people infected with the virus tallied a record high two days in a row, jumping from the previous daily high of 1,591 marked on Wednesday. The number of seriously ill patients in Tokyo on Thursday rose by eight from the previous day to 121, the highest ever.
