Tokyo Olympics: Team GB gold medal hope Amber Hill forced to pull out of Games after testing positive for Covid

Team GB gold medal hope Amber Hill has been forced to pull out of the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for coronavirus.ʉ۬

The 23-year-old shooter is ranked No1 in the world in the skeet discipline, which is due to begin on Sunday, but tested positive before leaving the UK and is unable to travel to Japan.ʉ۬

“Broken is about the only way to describe the pain I’m feeling right now,” Hill wrote on Instagram.

“After testing positive for Covid-19 last night, I will not be competing at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“Although I have no symptoms, I will now isolate as per Government guidance and will be taking some time off to somehow begin to process everything.

“Wishing all of Team GB the very best of luck.” â€¨

Hill was part of the British team at the Rio Games in 2016 while still a teenager and won silver at the Commonwealth Games in Austria in 2018.ʉ۬

She had to settle for bronze at this year’s European Championships but took gold at the World Cup in New Delhi in March to establish herself as one of the leading contenders in Tokyo.
