Tokyo Olympics round-up: Rory McIlroy makes promising start to games after lightning delay

Rory McIlroy made his Olympic games debut after a good start in his opening round.

After a delay in play due to extreme lightning, the Holywood native finished his round on -2.

That puts him currently 21st in the leaderboard.

McIlroy leaves himself only six shots behind leader Sepp Straka of Austria.

Ireland team-mate Shane Lowry shot a round of 70 which sees him in 31st position at the minute.

Team GB shooter Kirsty Hegarty missed out on the Trap final after finishing 16th in the qualifying event.

The Craigavon woman was 10th after the opening day but slipped back on Thursday as she pushed for a place in the top six to reach the final.

Northern Ireland's Ian Sloan and David Ames helped Great Britain to a 2-2 draw with Netherlands.

It means GB cannot finish lower than fourth in their pool and are through to the quarter-finals after some impressive results.

Sailors Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove have completed their day’s action at the Tokyo Games today finishing strong in 2nd place and 6th place in Races 5 and 6 of the 49er class respectively to see them lying in 7th position overall.
