Tokyo Olympics 2021 - LIVE!
A year later than planned, the Tokyo Olympics finally - officially - began with today’s opening ceremony.
The build-up to these Games has been filled with no shortage of uncertainty and controversy, with the Japanese capital still under a state of emergency due to the impacts of Covid-19.
Fans will be absent from all but 26 sessions over the next fortnight, with athletes facing plenty of restrictions themselves.
Despite that, Tokyo remains determined to still deliver an Olympics to remember, beginning with an opening ceremony that got underway at 12pm BST and is set to last for around three hours.
The concept of “Moving Forward” and the theme “United by Emotion” were expected to feature prominently in today’s show, most of the details of which have remained firmly under wraps, as usual.
Athletes from 205 competing nations plus the IOC Refugee Olympic Team will walk into the main Olympic Stadium this afternoon, with sailor Hannah Mills and rower Moe Sbihi - both gold medal winners in Rio de Janeiro five years ago - chosen to carry the flag for Team GB.
