Toshiro Muto, director general of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee, said Wednesday he aims to have domestic reporters who are covering the Games be vaccinated against COVID-19.
"We are considering vaccinating [domestic reporters] along with the volunteers if more vaccines become available," Muto said at a press conference after updating the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee about preparations for the Games.
The IOC has provided about 20,000 doses for Japanese athletes and Games officials. The government is said to be in talks with the IOC to provide more doses. If additional doses can be procured, the government plans to vaccinate volunteers and domestic reporters.
Muto added that in addition to visiting foreign journalists covering the Games, athletes from overseas will also be tracked by GPS to monitor their activities.
