On Thursday, 224 people were newly confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus in Tokyo, according to sources. The daily number of infections was a record high, exceeding the 206 confirmed on April 17, in the midst of the central government's declared state of emergency.
The Osaka prefectural government also announced on Thursday that 30 people, from elementary school age to their 60s, were newly found to be infected with the virus. The figure was the highest since the state of emergency was lifted on May 21. It was the first time the number has exceeded 30 since April 29, when 44 people were confirmed to be infected with the virus.
