Tokyo logs 876 new COVID-19 cases, most since end of 2nd state of emergency

Tokyo confirmed 876 new cases of novel coronavirus infections Saturday, the highest figure recorded in the capital since the second state of emergency ended last month.

The daily tally surpassed that of the same day on the previous week for a 24th consecutive day.

According to the metropolitan government, the seven-day average of new infections in Tokyo was 714, up 25.5%, from 569 the preceding week.

Osaka Prefecture logged 1,097 new COVID-19 cases on the same day, topping 1,000 for the fifth consecutive day.

In Hyogo Prefecture, a record 635 new cases were found Saturday, surpassing 600 for the first time.
