Tokyo reported 831 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Thursday, down by 844 from a week earlier, according to the metropolitan government.
It is the 25th straight day that the tally was lower than the same day of the previous week, and the first Thursday on which the figure was below 1,000 since July 8, when the single-day total was 896.
Tokyo also confirmed 24 deaths of COVID-19 patients between the ages of 40 to 99. The number of seriously ill patients fell by 16 to 182 from Wednesday.
