A total of 772 new novel coronavirus infections were confirmed in Tokyo on Saturday, the metropolitan government said. The figure was down 349 from the 1,121 cases logged last Saturday and marked the first time in five days that the daily tally has been under 800.
The number of seriously ill patients in the capital increased by one from the previous day to 85.
According to the metropolitan government, the seven-day moving average of new infections in Tokyo was 876.4, up 12.9% from 776.6 in the previous seven-day period.
The Osaka prefectural government reported 785 new cases, the seventh straight day below 1,000. The number of deaths linked to COVID-19 in the western prefecture was 42.
