The Tokyo metropolitan government confirmed 759 new cases of the novel coronavirus Friday, marking the 23rd consecutive day that the tally surpassed that of the same day in the previous week.
Friday's figure brought the seven-day moving average in the capital to 697.3, up 28.7% from 542 the preceding week. The number of those seriously ill increased by four to 52.
In Hyogo Prefecture, a record 567 cases were found, topping the previous record of 563 set on Wednesday. The number of new cases in the prefecture has exceeded 500 for three consecutive days.
