Tokyo logs 698 coronavirus cases

Tokyo logged 698 new coronavirus cases on Friday, down 61 from 759 last Friday.

The daily tally was lower than that of the same day in the previous week for the first time since March 31.

The metropolitan government said Friday's figure brought the seven-day moving average in the capital to 773.4, up 10.9% from 697.3 in the preceding week.

The number of seriously ill coronavirus patients increased by seven to 65, marking the first time since March 1 that the tally has exceeded 60.
