Tokyo logs 593 new infections

The Tokyo metropolitan government announced Tuesday that 593 new cases of novel coronavirus were confirmed in the capital.

The number rose 117 from a week earlier, marking the 17th consecutive day that the daily figure has increased from the same day of the previous week.

According to the metropolitan government, the daily average number of new cases in the past seven days was 602.3, up 21.7% from 494.9 in the preceding seven-day period.

The number of patients in serious condition on Tuesday increased by six from Monday to 63.
