Tokyo saw 556 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, the Tokyo metropolitan government said. This marks five straight days below 1,000, but is an increase from the 393 cases reported the previous day, when Tokyo recorded its first drop below 400 since Dec. 21.
People aged 65 or older accounted for 133 of Tuesday's new cases. The number of seriously ill patients dropped by four to 129.
