Tokyo reported 472 new coronavirus cases on Friday, down 142 from the same day in the previous week.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, four people aged 70-99 died with COVID-19 and the number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients decreased by five to 62.
The daily tally in the capital was lower than the figure logged on the same day of the previous week for the 22nd consecutive day.
The seven-day moving average of new cases in the capital was 455, or 78.4% of the previous seven-day period figure of 580.
Meanwhile, 189 new infections and 22 deaths were confirmed in Osaka Prefecture, marking the first time the daily tally of new cases has been less than 200 since Monday.
