The Tokyo metropolitan government announced Wednesday that it has confirmed 409 new cases of COVID-19 in the capital, the first time the daily number of infections has exceeded 400 since Feb. 18, when 445 cases were confirmed.
For the ninth consecutive day, the number of new infections exceeded that of the same day the previous week.
According to the metropolitan government, the average number of new infections in the past seven days was 298.9, up 12.7% from the 265.1 in the previous seven-day period.
The number of serious cases fell by one from the previous day to 41.
