Tokyo confirmed 4,220 new cases of novel coronavirus infection on Tuesday, down by 157 from a week earlier, the Tokyo metropolitan government said. The daily tally in the capital declined compared to the same day a week earlier for the second consecutive day.
The seven-day moving average increased by 2% to 4,637, compared with 4,527 cases for the preceding seven-day period.
The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients fell by four to 268, while the COVID-19-linked deaths of nine people in their 40s to 90s were confirmed in the capital.
The health ministry confirmed 1,935 seriously ill COVID-19 patients nationwide on Tuesday, up by 37 from the previous day, making a record daily number for the 12th day in a row.
