Tokyo reported 260 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Monday, down 80 from a week earlier.
The daily tally has now fallen below that of the same day in the previous week for 18 consecutive days.
The tally was under 300 for the first time since April 5, when 249 cases were logged.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the seven-day moving average of new cases in the capital was 547.1, or 85.7% of the previous week's figure of 638.1. The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients was 75, down two from the previous day.
