Tokyo logs 2,447 virus cases

Tokyo confirmed 2,447 new cases of novel coronavirus infection on Monday, down 515 from the same day last week.

It was the first time in two days for the daily tally to fall below the same day in the previous week.

According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients rose by one from Sunday to 272. The deaths of five people in their 50s to 80s were also confirmed in the capital.

The seven-day moving average of new cases was 4,659, up 9% from 4,275 in the preceding seven-day period.

According to the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry, the number of people with serious COVID-19 symptoms nationwide climbed by seven from the previous day to 1,898 at the start of Monday, hitting a record high for the 11th consecutive day.
