Tokyo logged 1,763 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Sunday, up by 755 from last Sunday and marking the sixth consecutive day in which the daily tally exceeded 1,000.
The seven-day moving average was 1,453.6, up 36.1% from 1,068.3 last week, according to the Tokyo metropolitan government.
The number of seriously ill patients was 72, down by two from Saturday.
