
Tokyo confirmed 1,387 new cases of infection with the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, returning to a recent trend where the daily figure has surpassed 1,000.
Tuesday's tally in the capital was up 557 from a week earlier, marking the 31st consecutive day where there has been such a week-on-week increase.
The seven-day moving average of infection cases in Tokyo came to 1,180, 1.5 times greater than the preceding seven-day period's 790.6.
The number of new infections in the capital has exceeded 1,000 since July 14, except for Monday when 727 cases were confirmed.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, 60 people are seriously ill with COVID-19, the same figure as Monday.
