
Tokyo confirmed 1,271 new cases of novel coronavirus infections on Friday, exceeding 1,000 for the third straight day.
The daily tally in the capital was up 449 from a week earlier and higher than the figure logged on the same day in the previous week for the 27th consecutive day.
According to the Tokyo metropolitan government, the number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients fell by four from Thursday to 53. The seven-day moving average came to 946.3, an increase of 37.8% from the preceding seven-day period's average of 686.7.
