Tokyo logs 1,128 new cases

The Tokyo metropolitan government logged 1,128 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Saturday, down 282 from a week ago. The daily tally exceeded 1,000 for the fifth consecutive day.

The average number of new infections in the past week was 1,345.7, up 33%, from the previous seven-day period's average of 1,012.

The number of seriously ill COVID-19 patients increased by six from the previous day to 74.
